Although our country have done much research on roof technology of coal seam working face and gotten a certain achievement, there are also some problems in that area. Due to the particular geological conditions of "three soft" coal seam, three are much accident from roof, low efficient of supproting, so it's necessary to work out a set of design method of roof control. In order to gain the roof behavior characteristics, range of abutment pressure distribution, mechanism of roof pressure and suitable caving technology, much research has been done in 16081 faces of "three soft" coal seam. Analysing with numerical simulation and laboratory similar simulation, the important datas including weighting interval and intensity of working face roof and range of needed control strata and front abutment pressure distribution characteristic can be gotten. Later, according to the production problems, the geological conditions in "three soft" coal seam, support parameters in working face and top-coal recovery rate related factors, optimizing control scheme and putting forward a set of supporting and caving mining technology scheme. Ultimately choosing cantilever support replaced the combination of single hydraulic prop andπtype steel beam, improving the roof and floor control states and the top-coal release rates and ensuring the safety in mine production.
