The Research And Design Of Paperboard Furniture

Due to the existence of a series of environmental problems such as environmental pollution, resource shortage, etc., it is imperative for us to implement such design concepts as "using green, low carbon and energy-saving resources". To solve the problem of resource shortage, businesses begin to explore and research new materials which are environmental friendly and sustainable. To develop and to research green furniture is a priority for modern furniture industry's development. Based on the concept of low carbon and energy-saving furniture and modern people's increasing emphasis on the environmental characteristics of furniture, and the rapid increase on temporary gathering places, and their special requirements for the portability and interest of furniture, the author of this paper establishes his research topic of developing paperboard furniture and its production process.The significance of this paper lies on the fact that exploring and researching the new material and structure of furniture and its portability and interest has several functions:it helps the diversifying of furniture's function, material and structure; it promotes the development of such design which emphasizes environmental protection, people-oriented and nature-based simultaneously; it facilitate the machinery and industrial production of furniture. The author aims to obtain the theory and practice of furniture design, to analysis the paperboard furniture manufacturing process; to innovate the cardboard furniture manufacturing through research and design.Paper furniture is divided into paper fiber furniture, pulp modeling furniture, paper tube furniture, paperboard furniture, and so on. The common features of these paper furniture are inexpensive, green and resource-saving. Its raw materials are wide-ranging, easy recovery, easily degradable, easy processing, recyclable and so on. These features make the paper furniture production low cost, resource-saving and less pollution, which are in full compliance with green furniture design. Paperboard furniture, with simple manufacturing and flat packing and shipping, easy to install and remove, convenient to store, light and portable, and so on, is the most sensitive green furniture in the 21 century. Paperboard furniture, suitable for the short-term tenants, temporary exhibition and gathering, meetings, as well as for the fashion crowd and children, has a broad development space.At present, paper board furniture design and production process have not form a system theory system. Based on this, the established in this paper, we study the content include:(1) the design principle of the furniture of cardboard, modelling and structure design theory are summarized; (2) analysis and research board furniture production process; (3)According to the above theory, some fun-assembly furniture for children and other several ones of different shapes are designed and produced, which thoroughly prove their lightness and portability, their simple manufacturing and interesting designs. At the same time, the author further analyses their structures and production process. This paper aims to provide some valuable guidance and implications for the industries on their designs of paperboard furniture and their choices of materials, and to promote the mass and standardized production of paperboard furniture through exploring and researching the theories of designing and producing paperboard furniture.
