Nowadays, the water pollution problem become more and more serious, but at the same time, more and more emergent water pollution accidents happen. Therefore the protection of water sources and the safety of urban water supply are very important. In this study, developed a new water quality on-line Bio-monitoring and warning system based on biotechnology, computer vision technology, dynamic image analysis technology, network techniques and wireless communication technology. By monitoring the behavioral changed induced by the aquatic organisms to evade the pollution, sudden pollution accidents in water body would be discover and early warning, and would be beneficial to take steps. The system detect and track the swimming behavior in dynamic image sequence by a real time image analysis system, using the camera and computer, carry on the comprehensive observation and the record of the fish's behavior without disturbance. We can gather some behavioral index such as average swimming velocity, average swimming attitude, Average distance and average turning frequency between all fish of the shoal and so on.Zebra fish was chosen to be the biological indicator by a series of screening test. And to the four heavy metals we concerned, Cd2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cr(â…¥), the 96 h half lethal concentration to zebra fish is 4.89 mg/L, 0.58 mg/L, 32 mg/L, 67 mg/L, respectively. The behavioral response under lethal concentration of different heavy metals and the mechanism of toxic effect was discussed in some degree in this study, providing basis for the reliability and feasibility of early warning the sudden pollution by the behavioral response of the fish. The results of the zebra fish's behavioral response under different sub-lethal concentrations of the four heavy metals showed, significant changes should be found when the test concentration reach 10% of the LC50-96 (safety concentration), which could be described by the Stepwise Stress Model, and it is feasible for early warning the sudden pollution in water. Meanwhile, the author found that some dose-effect relationship was existed in the time the dramatic changes of the behavioral index lasted. No weighty warning evidence was obtained in the field application of Shawan water supply factory and Dongchong sewage treatment plants, which agreed with the reaching standard of water quality. In the field application process, some factor that impact the process and the result of the system was found, which would be helpful to the improvement and perfection of the system. The field application will be of important realistic significance to the application and popularization.
