The present market condition commonly used insulation foam material basically is polyurethane, polystyrene, PE and other foamed plastics, these foam there are easy to combustion, after combustion produce large amounts of smoke, low heat temperature. Application in building is restricted, phenolic resin foam has excellent resistance to fiery without any special ingredients in the case. Phenolic resin foam without any other ingredients in the case has good resistance to fiery, basically don't burn, combustion smoke small. Although phenolic resin foam has many advantages, But its shortcomings are also cannot be ignored, just like brittle larger, lower strength, surface is easily off powder.This article based on improves Phenolic resin foam material. We expandable phenolic resins synthesized by phenol and paraformaldehyde in the presence of aqueous NaOH. Optimization of blowing agents, foam stabilizing agent, curing agent, adding plasticizer, so as to optimize foam formula, prepared a flame retardant polymer foam insulation materials.Firstly, the effect of synthetic reaction condition, such as reaction time, reaction temperature, etc, on the structure and reactivity of the phenolic resins was researched by FTIR spectrometer, which was employed to analyze hydroxymethyl index (CH2OH Index) of phenolic resins. The change of viscosity and solid content at different reaction conditions were also monitored. We analyzed the cause temperature and storage time on the influence of resin viscosity, and provide a series of parameters for industrialized production. The experimental results showed that when reaction time was increased, the CH2OH index of phenolic resin went up, and the viscosity and soild content of these phenolic resins were increased also. With the increase of reaction temperature, the CH2OH index of phenolic resin went up, by one temperature the CH2OH index was decreased. The viscosities of these phenolic resins were increased also.Then, the synthetic resin was used to synthesis phenolic resin foam, and the effect of blowing agent, foam stabilizing agent, curing agent, plasticizer and other agents on the physical properties of the foam was investigated. The results showed that the utilization of foaming agent with multiple boiling point could benefit even foaming of the foaming process and mixed acid was found to be the favorable curing agent to guarantee good curing rate and curing effect. The mixture of Dow Corning silicone oil and castor oil ethoxylates was selected to be the foam stabilizing agent to give evenly distribution of the cell. The adding of toughening agent cresyl phosphate ester helps to improve the toughness of foam and the independent porosity of the foam as well.Finally, in accordance with the national standard for testing the performance of phenolic resin foam, the density of the synthetic foam was measured as 32~38 kg/m3, with a compression strength of 22~26 N/cm2. The oxygen index and the water absorption of the foam were measured as 41% and 13.7%, respectively.
