This paper describes the existing processing technology of slender shaft and the status of research in this area. Based on a brief introduction of the current development of CNC technology and CNC lathe, the question of efficient machining of slender shaft in CNC lathe is raised. To solve this problem, research is carried out on the commonly used clamping means of slender shaft machining ,the chuck-top clamping method, the top-top clamping method and the chuck-chuck tailstock axial tension means, analysis is done on the mechanics and the derivation of the relationship between offset, cutting force and cutting parameters, tool tip position is given, also presented is the computing method of the natural frequencies of longitudinal and transverse vibration of the three clamping means mentioned above, based on the above findings, the supporting software Sshaft of slender axis CNC lathe is compiled and given software verification of finite element analysis. In addition, a preliminary conceptual design on the axial tension tailstock is presented, to some extent ensures reliability and feasibility of the chuck - axial tension tailstock clamping and provides innovative ideas for CNC lathes structure improvement.This study focused on the integrity of the parts of theoretical analysis, equipment improvement, auxiliary software of CNC machining and finite element analysis verification and has strong practical significance.
