The paper study on the recovery of organic acid from butyl acrylate wastewater by bipolar membrane electrodialysis module. It provides the theory bases for the technology of the recovery of organic acid by bipolar membrane electrodialysis in industrial production. The recovery of acrylic acid and p-toluenesulfonic acid from butyl acrylate wastewater containing acrylate and p-toluenesulfonate was performed in a three-chambered bipolar membrane electrodialysis module. Effects of operating voltage, circular folw of all chambers, initial solution volume ratio between salt chamber and acid chamber and initial concentration of feeding chamber on electrodialysis process were investigated.Analysising the results of experiments, the best operating voltage of the three-chambered bipolar membrane electrodialysis module is 25V, the circular folw of all chambers is 80L / h, initial concentration of feeding chamber including sodium acrylate is 130.6g / L and sodium p-toluenesulfonate is 20.4g / L and initial solution volume ratio between salt chamber and acid chamber is 5:1.The experimental results prove that one level–two stage feeding & discharging mode is better than batch feeding mode when the two modes in the practrical concentration wastewater experiments by bipolar membrane electrodialysis module. The results which the recovery cost is only 0.886 yuan / mol show economic feasibility of recovery organic acid from butyl acrylate wastewater by bipolar membrane electrodialysis module in one level–two stage feeding & discharging mode. Also the method of recovery of organic acid from butyl acrylate wastewater by bipolar membrane electrodialysis module can reduce the contents of COD, TOC, TN and so on , which could decrease difficulty for subsequent biochemical treatment and save production costs greatly.
