Graphite materia l is a materia l with the advantage of low density and high thermalconductivity, so graphite is a potentia l materia l for radiator and comparetively accord withthe development requirement of electronic equipment which is lighter and more Portable.In foreign country, some company has ma nufacture graphite radiator which is fit graphiteflat and meta l pedestal together. Graphite is a kind of materia l with lower mecha nicalproperty, which makes the formation difficult. So this paper do some researches onincreasing the mecha nical property and thermal conductivity.Experimental research was done about choosing binder. First, the wettability ofsevera l different binders to the graphite powder was studied. The results show that Epoxyresin and pitch (mod ified ptich and med ium temperature pitch) have good wettability. Butafter carboniza tion, epoxy resin will change into glassy carbon, which is difficultlyconverted into graphite. So epoxy resin is not good for binder here. It is found thatmodified pitch has a higher carbon yield tha n med ium temperature pitch through TGanalyse of modified pitch and medium temperature pitch. The rusult indica tes thatmodified pitch should be choosed an a binder, for high carbon yield is good for theimprovement of the properties of graphite composite.The effect of graphite powder granularity and binder content on the properties ofgraphite composite materia l were investigated. It is found that graphite powder granularityhas a best value (D50=18.1μm), the properties of materia l is better tha n others at the samecontent(wt.20%) of binder; in the experimental range, with the increase of content ofbinder, the properties of materia l can be improved. As binder increase more, the propertiesbegin to decrease. When the content of binder is at 30wt.%, compsite has best mecha nicaland conducting property, 10.65MPa and 10.789W m-1K-1.As the graphite composite materia l has low strength and apparent brittleness, canborfiber was used to reinforce composite strength and toughness. In this paper, research wasdone on effect of carbon fiber surface treatment and content on composite properties. Theexperimental results show (1) by liq uid-phase oxidative treatment, the carbon fibersurface activity can be improved, and the carbon fiber reinforced graphite composite show better properties; (2) As carbon fiber content increased, the properties canimproved firstly and then decreased. For example, when the content is 3wt.%,composite has the better properties tha n others, 14.06MPa and15.132 W m-1K-1 .
