Recent years, with the development to firon and steel industry, quality requirement of product is more and more strict. The bulging deformation is one of the key factors to influence the quality of slab. Without being controlled, the bulging deformation can make liquid steel leak and the leaking will induce the interruption of the continuous casting process and the burning down of the continuous casting machine. Both of the cases can lead to serious losses. Therefore, it is very important to analyze the bulging deformation of slab.In the paper, the Basal principle on bulging deformation in slab continuous casting are introduced firstly. Theory of solidification and heat transfer and thermo-machanical coupling theory about bulging deformation are expatiated in slab continuous casting. Then according to the actual situation of Anshan Iron and Steel R9300-slab continuous casting. Under the premise reasonable simplifications and assumptions, the finite element method model of solidification and heat transfer in slab continuous casting and model of thermo-machanical coupling on bulging deformation have been developed. Based on finite element theory, the process of solidification and bulging deformation of slab is simulated with potential finite element software-MARC.By numerical simulation, the temperature field, the growth status of shell, deformation characteristics and distribution pattern of strain-stress are obtained during soft reduction in slab continuous casting. The results are in line with actual production.This paper also researched bulging deformation law which is affected by the Shell thickness of the slab and the slab temperature. The results show that: with the shell thickness decreases, and the shell temperature increases, the bulging deformation of the shell increases.The model of three-dimensional thermal and mechanical coupling deformation on shell has been established to simulate the bulging deformation, the influence of foot roller distance on the deformation of slab bulge has been discussed, on the basis of which the foot roller distance was adjusted to make the foot roller distance be propitious to control the deformation of slab bulge. The results show that decreasing the foot roller distance will result in decreasing the deformation of slab bulge and the wear of the lower gate of the mold.The results provide a theoretical basis for defining the distance of foot roller of Anshan Iron and Steel R9300-slab continuous casting.
