Continuous casting has been developing rapidly in steel industry all over the world for its advantages, such as high productivity and heat effectiveness and so on. Improper cooling parameters and bulging deformation caused by the ferro-static pressure may influence the quality of slab, even interrupt the continuous process. Therefore, it's very important to analyze the solidification heat transfer and bulging in the cast slab. This paper studied the solidification heat transfer of slab in the mould and secondary cooling, the heat transfer equation and the boundary conditions for the analysis of slab solidification were determined, and the finite element model was established. The solidification process was analyzed. Based on the work above, the finite element model of the bulging deformation was established to analyze the bulging deformation and stress state in the cast slab. The Finite element software ANSYS is used to simulate the solidification process of continuous casting. The temperature field of the slab in mould and secondary cooling was got at any position. By this model, the influences of the processing parameters such as the casting speed and the tapping temperature on the surface temperature, the thickness of the solid shell and the position of the solidification terminal were investigated and analyzed. Based on the solidification simulation, using elastic-plastic creep model, considering creep property of slab in the high temperature, the bulging deformation was analyzed and the bulging deformation mechanism was revealed. By means of comparing with the results calculated by the empirical formula, the accuracy of the finite element results was proved .At last, the influence of principal parameters on the bulging deformation was analyzed, some suggestions to control the bulging deformation were given.
