Electroplastic effect (EPE) is a phenomenon that the plasticity of material increases obviously and simultaneously the deformation resistance decreases rapidly when high-density current flows through the plastic deformation happening zone. Electroplastic wire drawing (EWD) is such a process that makes use of EPE to draw the wire, in this way we can reduce the drawing force, prolong the using life of wire drawing dies, improve the surface quality and the mechanical property of the wire products, diminish the environment pollution and decrease energy consumption effectively. Therefore, due to the above and many other advantages, EWD technology has a vast range of prospect in industry application. This thesis briefly introduces the research history and current situation of EPE and EWD technology at home and abroad, then points out the weak link in EWD technology study is the lack of necessary understanding about the design rules of electrical power supply device (EPSD) for EWD. Therefore, to solve the problems involves the design process of EPSD is the main purpose and work content of this dissertation.Through theoretical analysis, three essential considerations that should be followed in EPSD design process were proposed: maximizing the performance of EPE, minimizing the energy consumption and optimizing the quality of wire products. After detailed analysis and discussion about the three considerations, the determine principles of the electrodes arrangement, the electrode-die spacing and the electrode-wire contact type was presented. With the help of finite element analysis software ANSYS and MARC, this study utilizes the numerical modeling method to simulate the EWD process, and at the same time obtain the current field and temperature field of the wire and electrode respectively. Then on this basis, through the analysis of current field, this paper studies the factors affecting the electrode-die spacing and degree of current concentration on the contact surface between electrode and wire. Also, with the analysis of temperature field, the maximum temperature rise with different electrode-die spacing of the wire has been researched. After a summary of the above theory analysis and numerical simulation results, the thesis gives several guidelines that should be abide by when the design of EPSD for EWD is being done. And finally, the paper puts forward a feasible design scheme of EPSD for EWD for reference.
