With the development of rolling technology, people pay more and more attention to the microstructure and mechanical properties of steel rolling products. Numerical simulations, such as finite element method (FEM), show great superiorities, which can make people analyze steel rolling process effectively and accurately. The numerical simulation has important role in reducing and eliminating text processes, developing new products and reducing costs. In this paper, the wide and heavy plate recrystallization controlled rolling processes are studied by numerical simulation of the FEM. Then this paper research on how to choose the rolling process parameters of controlled rolling, can we obtain a more fine and uniform austenite grain size. So this paper can offer some guidances that are helpful to controlled rolling practices. The research works are summarized as follows.The simulation of multi-pass and reversible rolling process by the finite element method software DEFORM is showed, which can ensure the simulation accuracy. The finite element model has been used to simulate and calculate 12 passes reversible rolling process, which can show the temperature field and rolling force of each pass of the wide and heavy plate. The error of the results between the measured data and the calculated data meet engineering requirements, indicating that the finite element model is valid. So the works above have given right basis for numerical simulation of microstructure evolution behind.Through the redevelopment of the FEA code DEFORM, the microstructural evolution process of metal hot deformation is introduced into the coupling thermo-mechanical FE analysis. Based on rolling deformation models, a virtual simulation system of the wide and heavy plate recrystallization controlled rolling process was developed on the platform of Visual Basic 6.0, which make it easy for the preparation of the original data, modification of process parameters, extracting the required data and showing in the form of curve. So the above works mentioned provide a powerful tool for calculation and analysis.Using the virtual simulation system, study the effects of control parameters such as reduction, deformation temperature and rolling speed on workpiece deformation parameters and microstructure evolution of recrystalliztion controlled rolling. In this paper, four ways have been received to achieve grain refinement: Reduce the heating temperature, Reduce the deformation temperature of workpiece during rolling, Increase the reduction rate at low temperature area, Increase rolling speed when the rolling temperature is in the dynamic recrystallization temperature range. So the works above have offered some guidances for controlled rolling practices.
