Polydicyclopentadiene (PDCPD) is a new thermoset polymer by cross-linking of olefin, it is a combination of high impact strength and high modulus, and it is an epoch-making new material which is suitable for the manufacture of large-scale molded products with complex shapes in a very short time. The poly(DCPD) is an alternative of some metal and plastics, Used for vehicle parts, large appliance housins, shock-resistant container and corrosion-resistant materials, and it can be expansion of its applications through new technologies and new additives. Applcation of poly(DCPD) can save resources and resources that respond to today's needs.However, being a hydrocarbon, the poly(DCPD) has intrinsic flammability and will burn continuously when ignited, imiting its promotion in household appliances and other fields. The addition of flame retardants in poly(DCPD) has become an important way to improve its flame resistance. The purpose of this project was to study the effect of flame retardant to mechanics properties and flame retarding properties of poly(DCPD) materials. Test methods contain horizontal burning, limiting oxygen index (LOI), smoke density test (SDR) and combustion residual appearance analysis.The study shows that: (1) the flame retardance of the poly(DCPD) can be increased by adding brominated polystyrene(BPS), when additives reach 18 parts, limiting oxygen index reached 24.8%; when used together antimony trioxide(Sb2O3), it showed the flame retardance is more effectively, when BPS additives is 18 parts , Sb2O3 additives is 6 parts, the composite material can extinguish after the fire being away, limiting oxygen index is 26.4% and its lever of combustion can be achieved HB grade. The material has well-balanced properties, and mechanical properties were not significantly reduced in comparation with poly(DCPD) without adding flame retardant. (2)Through smoke density test, with the introduction of BPS and Sb2O3, there will be HBr and SbBr3 which increased combustion smoke density, because the materials is hard to burn, and compare with materials without flame retardant, more rescue time can be obtained. (3) This subject adopts aluminum hydroxide (ATH) as smoke suppressing agent to decrease the discharge of smoke, and when its additives is 12 parts, the density of smoke emission levels reduced by 10%, and flame retardant effect can improved to a small extent. (4)Through analyzing of TG, take BPS and Sb2O3 as synergy flame retardant, there are both gas phase flame retardant function and condensed-phase flame retardant function. (5)With analysis of the residual appearance, the flame retardant performance of material is better, residual appearance reserved integrally without sprawl.
