Cucurbituril (CB6) is a special pumpkin-shaped compound. In the recent decades, study on the supramolecular chemistry of CB6 has been paid much attention as one of the host areas, primarily in its host-guest chemistry and structure assembly aspects. In this thesis, we have successfully synthesized two supramolecular arch-itectures of [Na2(CB6)(H2O)][Cu(I2sal)(Hqs)]·6.5H2O (1) [K2(CB6)(H2O)3][Cu(Hqs)(sal)(H2O)]·4.5H2O (2) (2) by an anion-exchange strategy based on asy-mmetric, shape-matching recognition. (Hqs = 8–hydroxylquinoline–5–sulfonate, I2sal = 3,5–diiodosalicylate, and sal = salicylic acid)These crystal structures have been determined by X–ray diffraction method. The results show that, the crystal 1 was in hexagnal crystal system, P21/n space group, a =The X–ray structural analysis suggested that 1 and 2 are very different, in monoclinic crystal system, and with the space group of P21/n and C2/c, respectively, which indicated that iodine plays an impotant role in the supramolecular structure. By the comparison and analysis of supramolecular structure, the unique structural effects of iodine substituent were discussed.Furthermore, the UV–visible spectroscopic analysis of the following complex systems were carried out: By comparison of the spectral analyses with the corresponding crystal structure, the effects of the iodine substituent and cucurbiturl in the assembly processes of the supramolecular structures were discussed, and the results showed that the iodine substituent may lead to the specific cis–coordination structure in crystal 1 which is very different from that of 2. In addition, a comparison of the IR spectra of crystal 3 and 4 with crystal 1 and 2 has also been made, which futher indicated the essential role of the iodine substituent for their assistance in the assembly processes of the supramolecular structures. The present results demonstrated that the iodine substituent may help much for the formation of special supramolecular structures, and provided impotant information for understanding the biological functions of the iodine substituents in thyroid hormones and may also informative for developing novel biomimetic supramolecular architectures.
