With the development of the economy, much exhaust gas is discharged in the industrial production process, and some gas is volatilized in the house fitment. Therefore, the adsorbent is most used to adsorb and treat these gases in the industry and everyday life. Graphene oxide (GO) is a novel nano-scale carbon material with low cost, so it is used as the basic material to adsorb gas.Porous graphene oxide foams were prepared using unidirectional freeze-drying method, and porous reduced graphene oxide (RGO) foams were obtained from the thermal reduction of GO foams, and foams with nanoparticles were also prepared, all these have not been reported before. These novel porous carbon materials were characterized by fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The adsorption behavior of both two foams to several kinds of gas was studied. In addition, the GO-Epoxy composites were prepared using graphene oxide foams, and their compressive mechanical property was studied. The oxygen content in the GO foams was reduced after the thermal reduction of the foams. And the adsorption result indicated that the adsorption capacity of GO foams to acetone was more than 100% which was higher than that of RGO foams, this was much higher than that of the other three carbon material like carbon nanotube; while, to sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH3), the adsorption capacity of RGO was higher than that of GO foams. Porous silver/GO (Ag/GO) and gold/GO (Au/GO) composites foams were prepared using novel methods, because of their good adsorption performance, the composites foams maybe good potential materials for treating gas contamination. The compressive experiment result showed that, after the addition of graphene oxide foams, if the concentration of the foams were lower than 2.0%, the compressive strength of the composites was increased with the decrease of the GO foam content.
