In coal gasification industry, cyclone separator is one of the important devices. The structural safety is becoming more and more important with the cyclone separator toward the large-scale development. In this paper, the structural strength of the existing large cyclone on the conditions of high temperature and high pressure was checked; obtained the dangerous stress position in the cyclone separator and found that the current structure is insufficient to meet its safety requirements under the high temperature and high pressure conditions; also calculated the temperature distribution and thermal stress in the cyclone. Studied influence on the cyclone stress value and distribution of different structural parameters, through the analysis results, it can be seen that the distribution form and distribution number of the top rib have the greatest impact on the upper cover board and little effect on the lower cover board. Under the premise of constant separation efficiency, structural improvement and optimization of the existing low-pressure, small cyclone separator were carried out by finite element method, and then obtained the new cyclone which met high temperature and high pressure conditions, and checked the strength of the optimized model. Meanwhile, random sampling of parameters, such as the actual manufacturing process and materials by Monte Carlo sampling method, calculated the impact on structure strength of parameter uncertainty, carried out the static reliability analysis using finite element software, obtained the structural reliability for 95% confidence level and the sensitivity of the various parameters on the cyclone separator reliability. Finally, the fatigue performance of cyclone separator was researched, and the stress amplitude of cyclone separator was obtained by ANSYS calculation. The fatigue life of the cyclone was predicted, and it is concluded that the number of safe operation of cyclone is 523730 times. The research can provide an effective basis for judgment of the safe operation of cyclone separator.
