Because of unique structure, excellent mechanical properties and electrical properties, carbon nanotubes has received the widespread attention in the field of polymer-based composite materials. However, the high aspect ratio and high surface area makes it very easy to agglomerate, when used as fillers, it is difficult to disperse in the resin system, which seriously affect the performance of multi-walled carbon nanotube/polymer composites. In this paper, the multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) were modified with organic compound and inorganic materials, get the modified MWCNTs, and then mixed with epoxy resin, obtained the nano composite coating, and the properties of composite coating were researched.Because the surface of multiwall carbon nanotubes as the inert state, the organic groups can’t graft to the surface well, and can not improve its compatibility with the resin system. For that reason, we used mixed acid to acidize the multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs), and get the activation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH), then modify the activated carbon nanotube by KH560 to obtain the organic modified nano powder.Through the sol-gel method to achieve the TiO2 and Al2O3 coated the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes uniformly, and obtains the TiO2-MWCNTs and Al2O3-MWCNTs cladding material, modified the surface with silane coupling agent (KH560). Using X ray diffraction (XRD), TG and environmental scanning electron microscope (SEM) to verify coating results. Finally, prepared mica-MWCNTs hybrid materials by a simple method.Compound the modified MWCNTs, TiO2-MWCNTs, Al2O3-MWCNTs and mica-MWCNTs hybrid material with the epoxy resin to prepare MWCNTS/epoxy, TiO2-MWCNTs/epoxy, Al2O3-MWCNTs and mica-MWCNTs/epoxy composite coatings, and through the Mechanical Test (MTS), the wear test, pressure test, AC impedance test (EIS) and other means to evaluate the flexibility, abrasion resistance, adhesion and corrosion resistance of composite coating. The results show that:the flexibility and corrosion resistance of TiO2-MWCNTs/epoxy composites coating have been greatly improved compared with MWCNTs/epoxy, the wear resistance have also some increased; the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of composites coating have significantly improved after being coated by Al2O3, but the flexibility of coating reduced; the impedance performance and the thermal stability of mica-MWCNTs/epoxy composites coating is improved; the dispersion of nanometer materials is improved after the carbon nanotube being coated with TiO2 and Al2O3.
