Cerium oxide (CeO2) is a kind of important compound with low cost, widely used in the family of rare earth, which has a fluorite crystal structure and bright yellow at room temperature. It has broad development and application prospect. Because of its good chemical stability and fast oxygen vacancies, it has a strong ability to store oxygen, oxygen release and oxidation reduction capacity. Considering all these unique properties, there are numerous applications in various field, from catalytic materials, solid fuel cell electrolyte to carrier materials and so on. In recent years, the preparation and application of cerium oxide micro/nano fibers have attracted much attention. Alumina(Al2O3), as a kind of high performance inorganic ceramic material, has been widely used in high-temperature insulating field and reinforced material of ceramic owing to its excellent high strength, high modulus, low coefficient of expansion, high chemical stability. In this paper, we used cerium nitrate, aluminum chloride and aluminum powder as raw materials to prepare precursor spinning solution and mixed in different proportion as the shell spinning solution. The CeO2/Al2O3 fibers with hollow structure were successfully prepared by coaxial electro-blowing spinning method. SEM、TG、XRD、 XPS and BET were employed to investigate the effects of parameters such as the viscosity of spinning solution, voltage, gas pressure, extrusion rate of spinning solution, heating rate and calcination temperature on the morphologies and structures of the hollow CeO2/Al2O3 fibers. The prepared hollow CeO2/Al2O3 fiber was used for the adsorption of MO dye. The effects of pH, initial concentration of MO and adsorption time on adsorption capacity were also discussed. The result showed that the optimum spinning parameters were given as follows: applied voltage of 40 kV, air pressure 0.08 MPa, solution viscosity of 2.75 Pa·s, solution extrusion rate of 30 mL/h, heating rate of 2℃/min and calcination temperature of 700℃. The average diameter of as-spun fibers was 3.49μm. After calcination, the average diameter of hollow CeO2/Al2O3 fibers reduced to 1.89μm. These fibers with good and fluffy appearance had obvious hollow structure on cross section. With the addition of Al2O3, the appearance of as-spun fibers has continuous and smooth morphologies. The hollow CeO2/Al2O3 fibers showed certain adsorption capacity of MO dye. The decolorization rate of MO solution reached 80% after 3 cycles. It could be removed by simple filtration without secondary pollution.
