The main purpose of the research of the moisture retention technology in cigarette is to solve the problem of cut tobacco moisture loss, dry and spicy sensation of cigarette smoke commonly exists in the tobacco. In order to ensure the quality of tobacco products and meet the taste requirements of the consumers. Add humectant can reduce moisture loss, improve tobacco physical properties and sensory comfort and the quality of cigarette smoking. This paper’s research object is the cut tobacco that sprinkled by conventional humectants and it’s different ratio, new humectants, then use the dynamic vapor sorption (DVS) as the main testing tool to discusses the influence of the equilibrium moisture content, microstructure, the rate of moisture loss, chemical composition and combustibility of cut tobacco on the physical and chemical properties of cut tobacco. The main contents are as follows:(1) After optimized the experimental conditions and common experiment, verified the repeatability and stability of the moisture retention humidity of tobacco humectants test method. The optimal conditions are as follows:temperature is 20±1℃, relative humidity (RH) is 10%-80%, quality is 70 mg. Set up a new test method to detect the moisture retention humidity of tobacco and tobacco products, the method is simple, rapid, accurate and reliable.(2) After analysed from the perspective of the equilibrium moisture content of cut tobacco and the rate of moisture loss, It showed that the cut tobacco sprinkled by the humectant can reduce moisture loss, the physical moisture retention of cut tobacco sprinkled by new humectants and different ratio humectants was better, meanwhile, the different ratio humectants significantly was better than the conventional humectants. The cut tobacco sprinkled by humectants has a higher equilibrium moisture content, the more smooth the surface microstructure is, the more obvious the organizational structure to spread and the section thickness increased significantly. Through the analysis of moisture absorption and absorption behavioral, the tobacco humectants whose moisture absorption and absorption is moderate was selected, for instance, the different ratio humectants 3# and new humectant E.(3) The volatile aroma components of the mainstream somking of the cut tobacco sprinkled by difference humectants in difference relative humidity (RH) did not show significant differences, but have certain effect on the content. The content of the volatile aroma components was increased at first and then decreased with the increase of relative humidity (RH), and the content of aroma components of cut tobacco at the condition of T=20℃, RH=60% was higher. Comprehensive analysis about the volatile aroma components of the cut tobacco sprinkled by difference humectants, It showed that the content of aroma components of the cut tobacco sprinkled by new humectants of was higher, then the cut tobacco sprinkled by different ratio humectants and cut tobacco sprinkled by conventional humectants was the least. Therefore, it has certain theoretical reference for the research of the cut tobacco sprinkled by different ratio from 3# to 4# and new humectant C, new humectant D, new humectant E to promote the quality of cigarette somking in difference relative humidity (RH).(4) There is difference in combustibility of cut tobacco sprinkled by difference humectants. The higher the equilibrium moisture content of cut tobacco sprinkled by humectants, the more obvious the organizational structure to spread and the section thickness increased significantly, In the first stage of combustion, after the evaporation of cut tobacco moisture, the structural which has launched did not change, can make more gas flow easily and more easy to burn, then the value of combustibility index (Sn) is higher. It showed that the combustibility index (Sn) of the cut tobacco sprinkled by new humectants E was higher, then the cut tobacco sprinkled by different ratio humectants 3# and the cut tobacco sprinkled by conventional humectants was the least. Therefore, there is some influence on the combustibility of the cut tobacco sprinkled by difference humectants.
