In recent years, Additive Manufacturing technology has gained widely attention and had rapid development.As an important branch of Additive manufacturing technology, Selective Laser Melting which has high forming accuracy, excellent mechanical properties and many other advantages, has primary application in the aviation, aerospace, biomedical, mould manufacture and other related fields obtained. However, the current commercial SLM equipments limit openness, which is difficult to adjust process parameters at all, do the SLM mechanism study step by step comprehensively and analy the process of single-pass cladding and also hard to develop new materials such as ceramic materials and composite materials.The research of powder coating system explore and develop independent SLM test platform to adjust process parameters and test various materials, thus laying a foundation for SLM mechanism research.In this paper, the SLM test platform is divided into four modules:the laser and scanning system, powder coating system, protection system with the atmosphere, and motion control. According to laboratory needs, the key technical indicators of the test platform is determined, the function and the design of each module is described.Powder coating system is the key link of SLM test platform. Based on the selection and check of servo motor, ball screw and other key components, the mechanical structure design and control simulation program of the forming cylinder powder feeding system is put forward.The finite element model of powder feeding system, combined with ANSYS software, has been established to analysis and optimize the structure by designing the diameter or installation location of guide columns and ball screw; at the same time, influence of spreading powder’s pressure on the system is studied.For improving the powder spreading control accuracy and reducing the steady-state error, the mathematical model of the powder feeding system has been built by Simulink software to design PID controller and do control analysis; besides, M2 forming equipment is taken as the verification object, the parameters of the powder coating system are used as the model parameters. Testing the accuracy of powder coating system is to verify the correctness of the control model.Finally, from two aspects:finite element temperature field simulation and experimental analysis, the necessity of heating before ceramic SLM forming is validated. Then through the analysis and selection of suitable heat insulation material, powder coating system is provided with effective heat insulation protection.
