In the chemical production process, most reaction goes with strong exothermic effect. Despite of the design of safe and reliable reactor and peripheral equipment, and the modern process control technology, the fire and explosion accidents, which are easy to bring serious casualty and loss, occurred frequently caused by runaway reaction because of technology and human factors.By using the basic methods of Thermal Explosion Theory, firstly the global thermal stability of PFR with 1-dimensional pseudo homogeneous phase model is analyzed, and the critical thermal point temperature and critical operation conditions are determined. And then 2-dimensional pseudo homogeneous phase model, in which velocity and temperature 2-dimensional distribution and mass and energy of species 2-dimensional dispersion are considered, is simulated numerically by the software of Fluent to study thermal stability near the critical point and observe the parametric sensitivity, and results obtained are more exact compared to 1-dimensional model and equal 1-dimensional model. At last, effective measures are found to avoid reaction runaway according to the sensitivity of thermal point temperature to technics parameters. The two-step method of analysis first in simple model and then in complex model by the use of numerical simulation software with strong functions has big meaning to study the thermal stability of PFR in 2-dimensional pseudo homogeneous phase model or 2-dimensional heterogeneous phase model and to optimize technics course.
