Mold flux is very important for continuous casting of steel,the properties of it determined the quality of strands.During the development of the CC, Different steel needs different mold flux,and same steel for the request of mold flux,capability that lubrication and temperature diffusion characteristic of mold flux, absorb impurity and lubrication and so on are inconsistent.With the development of CC technology, and improvement of strand quality, the conflict is more evidence. So it is very important to solve the coming technological difficulties.The ratio of the medium carbon steel casting in production is larger, and continuous casting of medium carbon steels is difficult for assuring qualities. For the production of medium carbon steels,in this study,the state-of-the-art in this area has been reviewed;And a systematic investigation in the physical chemical properties of mold flux and the performance under the conditions of the CCM,technics in particular has been conducted.The specific researches and the main conclusions are listed as follows:(1)In this study,the effect of components on the physical chemical properties of mold flux had been studied.The key of appeasing CC-production is the components of mold flux.The relation of the components and the capability of mold flux had been laid store by metallurgists.For development of mold flux,much investigation had been done about the effect of components on the physical chemical properties of mold flux.(2) The effect of components,on crystallizing capability, and the coordinated control of crystallizing behavior of mold flux had been studied in this paper, the controlling mechanisms are as follows:By the method of mixing manifold flux and appending B2O3 and Li2O in mold flux would avoid precipitation of gehlenite during freezing processes,and would improve the appearance of low melting temperature components.In this way, the liquid slag film near by strands would lubricate the strands well,and the solid film would control heat transfer from strand to mold properly.The coordinated control of lubrication and heat transfer control would be coordinated well in this manner. (3)The importance of heat transfer and lubrication had been discussed and analyzed comprehensively. Heat transfer properties of mold flux to strand quality of influence is prodigious,in particular medium-carbon-steel CC.To improve strand quality, the coordinated control of heat transfer and lubrication had been studied.(4)In this study, base on theory research of mold flux,a series of mold flux used in different steel grade and different casting processes have been developed. Magnificent economic and social benefits have been taken from practical utilization of this series mold flux some of steel plants domestic.
