Endless Strip Production(ESP),as the third generation thin slab continuous casting and rolling technology,the key to the success of this technology is to achieve the stability of drawing speed and defect-free production.Therefore,it is very important to adapt the mold flux of ESP process.In this paper,as a background of the subject,in-depth research on the mold flux of low carbon steel for ESP continuous casting process is carried out.At present,there is no report on the related research of mold flux for ESP continuous casting.Through the analysis of the laboratory,it is concluded that the protection slag satisfying the process needs to meet the requirements of thin slab,high speed and low carbon steel continuous casting process,and the performance conditions must be met for the special requirements of the billet speed not to spin down during production.The laboratory carried out a specific study as follows:(1)Through thin slab,drawing speed,the theoretical analysis on the performance requirements of three kinds of continuous casting technology for low carbon steel,the slag of low carbon steel for ESP continuous casting which satisfies the production condition must have good melting performance,including lower melting point and faster melting speed,and the lower viscosity satisfies the lubrication condition of casting billet under high drawing speed,To ensure the smooth flow of molten slag into the casting billet and mold wall function;good control of heat transfer ability can reduce the high drawing speed caused by excessive extraction of heat,to avoid cracks on the surface of the casting billet,but also not because the heat flux is too low to cause the thickness of thin shell accidents;excellent stability,including chemical stability and thermal stability,excellent chemical stability to ensure that the absorption of inclusions after the chemical composition of the slag volatile,lubrication and control of heat transfer performance is not affected,good thermal stability broadens the lubrication range of the slag to ensure continuous casting process smoothly.(2)The test results of the physical and chemical properties of the slag used in field production were used as evaluation criteria.The test and analysis of the physical and chemical properties such as hemispherical point,viscosity and heat extraction of slag in the field were used to provide a more definite reference range for the laboratory to design the slag of low carbon steel for ESP continuous casting(3)According to the requirement of the mold flux of low carbon steel for ESP continuous casting,the laboratory designed a series of mold fluxes to analyze its physicochemical properties,and to seek the most suitable mold flux for field production by changing the chemical composition,the material adding method and changing the industrial raw materials.The mold flux which can satisfy the low carbon steel for ESP continuous casting process line is determined,which can realize the mold adiabatic insulation,prevent the secondary oxidation and control the heat transfer.Lubricating the billet and absorbing the inclusion of five metallurgical functions,it is expected to achieve localization in the future.
