According to statistic, in the field of automobile manufacturing in Unite States, drilling accounts for fifty percent of machining; and more in aeroplane manufacturing. But the drilling capability of conical drill isn't ideal, people have always been trying to improve the configuration and means of modifying; in the past, more than two hundred kinds of drill-configuration has come out, improving the cutting capability.The study and application of helical drill has improved the drilling capability of drill and drilling quality. The "S"-shape chisel edge has a lower negative rake angle than a conventional chisel edge. Helical drill point has an "S" contour with a radiused crown chisel that reduces the thrust force and make the drills self-centering, achieving hole with exact size, and sometimes reaming can be replaced.Drilling capability and grinding of conical drill can be studied through modifying theory of SD grinder. SD grinder is a new type of helical drill point grinder, which is, with simple framework, operated easily, and gained ideal drill point easily by adjusting parameters.Mathematical model is the basic of design, manufacturing, analysis and drilling, the study of helical drill point is not an exception. Firstly, we should establish grinding mathematical model of SD grinder, by which we can obtain the relation between designing-parameters and grinding-parameters, and then receiving the expression of designing-parameters.Nowadays CAD has advanced obviously, and many plot software have standard library, helping correlated personnel greatly. But, drilling didn't have their module, inconvenient to draw model. So this article exploits a drill module in Pro/Engineer with Pro/TOOLKIT.With the development of CAD in productivity, system exploitation have become a heated discussion in many fields, and then this article exploits a helical drill system, which includes establishing-module, emulation, cutting-force and so on, based on SD grinder[33]. In theory, helical drill point has better drilling capability than ordinary drill point, which is manifested in experiment. Firstly, modifying ordinary drill point; secondly, drilling on piecework. In order to persuade obviously, three kinds of material has been operated and then the drilling quality has been compared between helical drill point and ordinary drill point.SD grinder has simple frame and better tenacity, being operated easily. With drilling capability and drilling quality, helical drill point is a ideal kind of drilling tool. The exploitation of Pro/Engineer has made helical drill point turn into specialization,practicality and customization.
