Hole drilling is one of the most important trades in machinery manufacturing. The workload of drilling is one-third of machining. Therefore, drilling technology has been one of the most important issues in mechanical processing.Commonly used drills are conical drills, but the self-centering of the conical drills are not good, the axial force and torque are also relatively large. To solve this problem, the mathematical of helical drill point is put forward, the drilling stability and self-centering function of helical drill point are good. However, high-precision helical drill sharpening is hardly done by hand. Therefore, this paper proposed the ways of helical drill sharpening based on the biglide parallel machine, to bring off the automatically sharpening. This paper focused on the following aspects of exposition and research.(1)The research history and current situation of the mathematical of drill and twist drill sharpening was introduced. Four commonly used ways of twist drill sharpening was analyzed.(2)By analyzing the motion characteristics of the biglide parallel machine, obtained the biglide parallel machine sharpening principle. Then according to the sharpening principle, the relationship between the machine structure coordinate and the drill structure coordinate is established, the mathematical model in the machine structure coordinate is also given.(3)According to mathematical model relationship between drill point geometry parameters and sharpening parameters was analyzed. The affect of sharpening parameters on the structural parameters using numerical analytical method was got. Then the curve diagram was drew using MATLAB.(4)According to the curve diagram, the sharpening parameters was solved, then the sharpening interface was programed by using the Visual Basic programing language. The program can control the biglide parallel machine, to achieve the automation of sharpening. (5)The sharpening experiment was done on the biglide parallel machine,(?)6and (?)10twist drill were sharpened. The results was also analyzed.The results show that:The mathematical model based on the biglide parallel machine is correct. The relationship between the sharpening parameters and the structural parameters is also correct. ultimately the biglide parallel machine can sharpening helical drill point automatic.
