The paper systematically analyzes existing domestic and foreign methods for fault location of transmission line,then,a series of analysis and research is done, focusing on how to improve the accuracy of fault location.and in finally determines implementations of traveling wave ranging based on single-end.Based on the analysis of transmission characteristics of travelling wave, an algorithm is proposed for fault location, due to avoiding the effect of wave speed, in theory, this method reduces the location error caused by uncertainties; the effect of coupling among three phase lines can be solved by phase-mode transform.From the angle of signal processing, the wavelet theory is introduced to analyzing the distance information of fault traveling wave, wavelet transform has the ability of analysis both in time-domain and frequency-domain. So it has a bright development and application prospect in analyzing the problem of singularities, such as traveling wave of power system.Through the analysis of simulation model of fault location system in chapter 3, several simulation tests involving all kinds of fault situation are carried out on the model. The simulation shows that the accuracy of fault location is greatly improved by the new methods presented in this paper, so this method is very effective in fault location.Then, to meet the demands of high speed data acquisition,the digital signal process technology is applied in the project, the TMS320VC5507 data signal processor of TI Company is used to be the main chip. It determines the online ranging system implementation scheme,constructs the hardware structure and the corresponding software development.If transmission line occurs fault, the system is started, then transmits the acquired fault point data to PC by USB serial port in order to process. The experiment shows that it can meet the requirement of fault location system for real time and reliability by using DSP in it, so this method has good practicability and broad application prospects.
