Composite isolation technique which is extensively used in the engineerings of our county is a new structure basement isolation technique over the past several years. The isolator layer of composite isolation structure is combined by laminated rubber bearings and sliding isolation bearings. Rubber bearings decrease the stiffness of isolator layer and prolong the periods of structure in order to avoid peak period at seismo region. Sliding isolation bearings consume earthquake energy by friction displacement between the isolator layer and basement. Composite isolation technique can take two traditional isolation techniques together, make full using of their merits and get over their shortcoming. Therefore, It can not only provide sufficient elastic resilience but alos consume earthquake energy effectually.A two-floor still-frame model of composite isolation structure is tested to simulate the earthquake on shaking table in this paper. This investigation can offer basic theory foundation and reference for engineering designer dealing with design and application of composite isolation systems. Especially dynamic characteristic of isolation bearing and the effect regularity of various isolation parameters affecting the isolation property are analysising. Structure dynamic response in the test was compared with that of analysing in the Sap2000 software. It is shown that frame acceleration response and relative storey displacement are both small in composite isolation structure,which can segregate large earthquake energy.then it can be reflected by the software analysing.With development of high-rise structures, the height of composite isolation structure is increasing. In the paper,study on limit of height-to-width radio for composite isolation structure was presented.The simplified formulation has been derived and some influenced factors,such as friction coefficient,friction isolator bearing radio,seismic intensity,seismic wave peculiarity,have been discussed. The conclusion can provide the references to the design of composite isolation structure.
