Now, the economy of our country develops very and violently, along with the city high-rise construction and some other kinds of large-scale constructing, the pile obtained the more and more widespread application. Towards the high-level and the extra-high building is developing rapidly at present, and in order to increase the foundation bearing capacity, the pile is used corresponding increased, and the pile's length is more longer than before. Therefore, it is necessary for us to make further study of the effective length of pile in the engineering construction, then regarding the pile foundation as the project foundation, and carrying on the optimization to its pile foundation to design time. To make sure the effective length of the pile in the engineering practice is a very urgent problem.The pile foundation has been applied widely at Guangzhou area. The relationship between pile foundation supporting capacity and head settlement of pile displacement based on the theory study of pile foundation supporting capacity is proposed. In this paper, some test materials of pile foundation supporting capacity were induction, statistics and analysis and built an equation between one pile foundation supporting capacity and head settlement of pile displacement. Then, the equation is tested according to some engineering examples.The main efforts and conclusions results gained can be expressed as follows.(1) Based on the pile foundation classification, the hyperbolic curve model was used to study the interaction mechanism between the pile foundation supporting capacity and rock (or soil). For description different period pile foundation supporting capacity, the method of load transmission and the double broken line model function were described the full process. Then, three kind of different states were explored separately that were perfect elasticity state, part plastic state and whole plastic state of soil about pile foundation.(2) According to the soft soil ground characteristic, some laws such as the pile foundation stability, Pile foundation principle of design and stress characteristic etc. were studied. Then, based on instability and some influencing factors of pile foundation, the validity and reasonable were explored. Specially, the super-long pile was discussed in the deep soft soil level.(3) Based on the Guangzhou area geological condition and pile foundation vertical compression-test principle, the statistical analysis of pile foundation was studied. According to the regression analysis of some typical pile foundation statistics, the relationship equation was obtained between pile foundation supporting capacity and head settlement of pile displacement of pre-stressed concrete pipe pile in Guangzhou area. Some engineering examples were used to test the suitable value of equation.
