With the development of power system, the power grid will be a large synchronized AC/DC hybrid system in the future. At planning, building and operation stage, it will need multi-methods to study power system which includes many HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) systems. The electro-mechanical software and the traditional electromagnetic transient software, known as offline simulator, have respective limitations, so that the previous tool could not fulfill the increasing requirement of HVDC study. It is very valuable for HVDC projects that developing a model of detailed HVDC control and protection system, which would simulate the actual HVDC controller. Due to the fast development in Computer science and chip technology, it has been easier to achieve the target that developing a model of HVDC controller. Hence, to develop a model of HVDC with the new computer technology, as well as realize it in the electromagnetic transient software platform, is a feasible direction and the main work of this dissertation. The main results of the dissertation include the complete model of the detailed HVDC controller and the verification of the characteristics of it, including such items below.First, the analysis and simplification of functions in the practical devices to develop a group of modules, which can be configured and installed in the platform of EMTDC.Second, the analysis and selection of the simulation platform, studying the related function, as well as the implementation, and the electromagnetic algorithm and executed principle of EMTDC.Third, introducing the technology details of the developed completed control system model, including the general mind of the system modeling, the important interfaces design method, the synchronized clock and the special function block.Fourth, the complete verification of the function and dynamitic characteristic of this complete control model:this issue provides detailed comparative results among four different test methods, including the site test, on two typical disturbance cases, such as the AC single phase-to-earth fault for 100ms in the inverter and the DC line-to-ground fault for 100ms.
