Energy and environment is an important issue regulating people's development. With the development of global economics, the total consumption of energy becomes larger and larger. Energy saving and emission reduction become an important theme in 21 century because of the increasingly shortage of fossil energy and the deteriorating of environment. Power plants account for the main status in the proportion of the national electricity generation in our country. So, how to improve the boilers'combustion efficiency in the power plants, and how to reduce the depletion of coal resources, will impact the energy industry in our country.In the power plants, carbon content in fly-ash is an important indicator reflecting boilers'combustion efficiency in the power plants. So measure carbon content on-line is helpful to adjust the ratio of air and fuel, improve the condition of boilers. Control carbon content in fly-ash properly is good for reducing the cost of electricity generation and improving the efficiency of units. Measuring carbon content in fly-ash by infrared reflection method have an important influence on measure carbon content in fly ash on-line, energy saving and emission reduction.First this paper clarified the theory of measuring carbon content in fly ash by infrared reflection method, reviewed the methods of measuring carbon content which have already used and discussed their advantages and disadvantages. This paper designed the measurement system based on the theory of measuring carbon content in fly ash by infrared reflection method.By the measurement system, the impact of sample thickness, measuring angles, particle size and pore size distribution on light intensity are discussed, the relationship between carbon content and light intensity is studied, the influence of flowing ash and light source intensity on measuring carbon content are researched.This paper proved the feasibility of measuring carbon content in fly ash by infrared reflection method, improved the method measuring light intensity by experiment, analyzed various factors impact on this method, and improved the stability and adaptability of the system.
