Air filter is one of the critical parts in engine.Its performance not only determinates the reliability and life period of engine, but it also has great effect on the dynamic, economic and emission characteristics. With the swift increase amount of domestic vehicle production and inventory, the demand on air filter is undergoing great growth.As a result, it is of great point to design the air filter of higher filter efficiency, smaller intake resistance and compact structure from the view of the lengthening of engine life period, and the improvement of efficiency and economic performance, as well as that of energy saving.The paper established the mathematic model of filter paper and air filter on the foundation of basic CFD principle. The resistance characteristics and flow field transformation were calculated under different structure parameters on the base of model.The result showed that the filter area enlarged with the increase of pleat number and external diameter, or the decrease of internal diameter, so that comprehensive consideration in the two of aspects should be taken during design process in real application.In order to provide necessary parameters and examination of calculation result, the construction of air filter performance test bench was completed according to both domestic and foreign standards, and the experimental research was done as its follow. The model mentioned above was proved reasonable after the comparison between experimental data and simulation result, and the analysis of the difference between the two results.
