For deep research the mechanics characteristic of blast furnace slag foundation soil Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., forecasting the blast furnace slag special foundation soil does to superstructures, this paper integrate with the soil mechanics, hot biography study, materials science and so on, embarking from the mechanical testing of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co. blast furnace soil, conducted the experimental study and the fundamental research to the blast furnace soil.The paper embarking from project application's research of blast furnace slag, put forward to the research that blast furnace slag acts as base support layer which is ignored by former researchers, and also analyzed the present situation and prospect of blast furnace slag. The forming way and its mineral constituent and the chemical composition of blast furnace slag was researched, and the possibility and problems of blast furnace slag acting as base support layer ware also researched.Based on the test result of screen analysis experiment, heat expansion experiment, compaction test, compressive test, shear test as well as scene dull load test, and compared with other common base soil, the mechanics characteristic of blast furnace slag of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co. was proposed.The testing results indicated the following conclusions:1. the thermal-expansion coefficient of unchanged blast furnace slag sample is bigger than the changed, and the thermal-expansion coefficient become smaller along with stack time; 2. The maximum dry weight density of blast furnace slag soil is similar with detritus; 3.Under the condition that the water content is 4% and 8%, the soil's shearing strength target and anti-compression performance enhance along with the compactness of blast furnace slag. But when the compactness grows pass a certain character point, the compressibility coefficient and internal friction angle change tendency changes gentle, and the value tends to be stable.4. When the compactness coefficient is 0.88, the soil's shearing strength target and anti-compression performance change against the water content.5. Size effect exists in the compaction test; the sample size has certain extent influence on the test results. On the other hand the compacting power has no direct relationship with the intensity after compacting. The intensity index and anti-compressibility of compacted soil with different compacting power is similar as long as the physical states are similar, such as dry density, water content etc.6. The supporting capacity performance of blast furnace slag soil highly surpasses Geda clay stone, ice age pebbles layer.
