It is also the most popular, the most investigated and the most widely used renewable energy field at present. It is very important to utilize the solar energy in the world. Solar energy water heater in conjunction with air source heat pump is an energy-saving and environment friendly system with the advantages of solar energy and heat pump.In this paper, the research and development present status of solar energy and heat pump technology present were discussed in detail. Based on the energy saving technologies in the filed of solar energy and heat pump, a novel solar energy water heater in conjunction with air source heat pump (SEWH-ASHP) was designed and fabeicated. This SEWH-ASHP can be operated with three kinds of mode according to different cilmate conditons, namely, solar water heating system, air source heat pump water heating system and solar energy water heating system in conjunction with air source heat pump. The thermal performance of the SEWH-ASHP under real climate conditions was tested and analyzed in Kunming.Test results indicated that the SEWH-ASHP could be operated with high efficiency. The effects of operation parameter on the performance of the SEWH-ASHP were experimently investigated. The operating characteristics of the the SEWH-ASHP were also analyized.Based on the developed SEWH-ASHP, its thermodynamics model was developed succeed. The thermal performance and operating characteristics of the SEWH-ASHP under the typical cilmates cilmate conditons were numerical simulated MATLAB programs. The component optimum matching of the SEWH-ASHP was also determined by numerical simulation. The simulation results also reveal that the SEWH-ASHP could be operated with high efficiency under three kinds of mode according to different cilmate conditons. Morover, the numerical simulation results are anastomotic with experiment date appropriately.
