Propeller is a typical complex surface part, which is the core part of the aircraft, ships and other means of transportation. Design and manufacture accuracy of the propeller directly affects the performance of equipments. With the development of science and technology, the requirements of design and manufacture of propeller in the fields of aerospace, ships and locomotives are increasing greatly. The design and manufacturing of propeller in our country mainly relys on foreign high-end software and five-axis CNC machine tools. The price of overseas processing software of propeller is hign and that the software is a closed system, the core technology of it can not be got by others. So it is important to carry out the design and processing technology of propeller based on commercial software.In this paper, the propeller design, tool path planning, NC code generation, and special type of five-axis machine tool after the treatment are the main content.There is a new method to build propeller blades which combined with structural characteristics of the propeller and Pro/E software. This method achieves intuitive modeling, abandons the traditional cumbersome three-dimensional coordinate transformation. Three-dimensional solid model of propeller blades in final is obtained by checking the original design data in the modeling process and timely data error correction.On the base of analyze the characteristics of the propeller geometry and process and plans impeller diameter, finishing tool path. The method which replaces the five-axis machining with three-axis machining is proposed in the step of rough cut and the method enhances the processing efficiency. And it realized the blade, hub and other free-form surface precision machining and developed a special type of five-axis CNC machine tools for post-processing procedures by UG/CAM power function in the finishing step.The research in the paper achieves high efficiency and precision propeller 5-axis CNC machining and has better practicability in engineering. And it has a reference value for the other parts of the five-axis complex surface machining.
