Seismic stability of highway slope is one of the hot problems in geotechnical seismic engineering field and still presents a major challenge to designer. The land slide hazard of highway slope induced by strong earthquakes are very heavy in our country and brings enormous loss to national economic construction. How to reduce landslide disaster of the highway slope becomes a primary subject of the research in the slope project. It is the key to reduce natural disasters successfully that appraises the slope stability correctly. So the research of the slope stability analysis is very important content in the slope research.This paper reviews the state-of-the-art advancement of several important problems on stability analysis of rock-soil slopes ,including analysis method of static stability, analysis method of dynamic stability, failure mechanism and failure location, dynamic stability evaluation index and safety standard, and earthquake input. Then concise remarks are made. My paper reveals the essence and defect of the limit equilibrium slice methods. On the basis of the limit equilibrium slice methods, this paper proposes a method that combining the elastoplastic finite element method(FEM)with the limit equilibrium method . Based on the investigation of engineering geological conditions of the highway within SiChuan province ,using the method which combining the elastoplastic finite element method(FEM)with the limit equilibrium method to analyze the slope stability under the earthquake.It establishes a two-dimensional finite element model for the slop . Input the El-Centro earthquake wave to the bedrock, and adopting different PGA to analysis the slope's stability and distributing of the strain . Using the analysis method of elastoplastic finite element get the whole stress field of the slope, obtain all force between the slices on the interface that without doing any hypothetical, and then compare the limit equilibrium theory with the traditional pseudo-static method .The factor of safety get from using the elastoplastic finite element method combining with the limit equilibrium is Little difference from pseudo-static method, the former safer than the latter. At last, on the basis of quantitative analysis, the program of using prestressed anchor to reinforce the slope is put forward. And it is proved that this program reaches its prospective result.The development of true stress and strain of rock is simulated with finite element method, it can take the cumulative damage effect and elastoplastic of rock into considering. To a large extent, the finite element method can compensate for deficiencies in traditional methods. This method inherits the advantage of finite element method and the appraisement index can conform to the traditional safety coefficient appraisement system, which make the result more reality.
