With the rapid development of modern society, the demand for power quality of users is higher and higher, kinds of power quality problems such as voltage swell and sags, power system harmonics, voltage fluctuations and so on bring great harm to users. This paper includes some research on one of the power quality problems-voltage fluctuation. This paper summarizes the causes, harms of voltage fluctuation and suppression methods at home and abroad. The typical voltage fluctuation whose envelope is sine wave is analyzed, and the relationship between typical voltage fluctuation and the single inter-harmonics and a pair of inter-harmonics is presented. In this paper the method of voltage suppression is researched based on a kind of series voltage compensator, simulation model is built by using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation software, three methods including minimum method, complete compensation method, minimum energy method are compared and the complete compensation method is adopted at last. Based on the tranditional PI control, the repeat control method is applied to improve steady-state control accuracy and dynamic and static performance. The physical experiments are carried out based on the 400/100kVA series power quality compensator appliance with the use of DSP+FPGA digital control system. Finally, the results are analyzed by MATLAB software and power quality analyzer, and the validity of the suppression method is verified.
