The wharf of a port is the hub of water transportation which plays a vital role in the development of national economy, and if the port buildings were destroyed, not only affects the basic needs of life of people, but also affects the national foreign trade, and economic development will have been seriously affected, and economic loss is immeasurable. The sheet pile wharf is commonly used both at home and abroad, and the structural design and seismic design is an important part of sheet-pile wharf design. At present, although the design procedures and siesmic design methods have been standardized, but we should constantly sum up experience in order to further improve the reliability of the design procedures. A comparative study is made for the design procedures and seismic design methods of sheet pile in the code or guidelines of China, the U.S. and Japan, and the numerical simulation is done using finite difference software FLAC3D. The main contents include the following aspects:(1) The research background and profound meaning of the paper are introduced, and summarized the development of the seismic design codes for port structures of China, the U.S. and Japan.(2) The design procedures of China, the U.S. and Japan are introduced in this paper, and an example design according to the three codes is provided. The research shows that the method of calculation adopted by the three countries is based on Coulomb's earth pressure formula, and the calculation method of the buried depth and internal forces of sheet pile walls used by China is different from the U.S. and Japan, and the U.S. approach of checking anchorage takes into account the continuous and discontinuous anchorage in the case of consolidation and drainage, while China and Japan are not considered.(3) A comparative study is made for the seismic design method of sheet pile in the code or guidelines of China, the U.S. and Japan, and an example design according to the three codes is provided. The research shows that the method of calculation adopted by the three countries is base on Mononobe-Okabe dynamic earth pressure formula, and the U.S. approach takes into account the influence of vertical seismic action, while China and Japan are not considered, and the seismic coefficient value of the three countries is not the same.(4) Nonlinear seismic response analysis of sheet pile is performed using finite difference software FLAC3D, including contour of szz and contour of z-displacement under static load, contour of x-displacement and z-displacement as well as the acceleration time history and lateral displacement curve of the pile bottom under seismic action, peak lateral displacement and moment along the depth of pile before and after the earthquake happened, of which the distribution rule are analysied, and obtain some referential conclusions.
