Reactive power is an important factor which affects the power system voltage stability. The transmission of reactive power in electric network can lead to network loss, resulted in reduction of using efficiency of power energy and seriously affects the power supply quality. Therefore, reactive power compensation is one of the effective measures to assure reliable and high efficient operation of power system.This paper mainly introduces the basic principle of reactive power compensation, the performance improvement of the power grids. Then the hardware and software design scheme is given. Using the ATT7022A to collect the power gird datas, this controller mainly be designed based on 32-bit fixed point digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F2812 produced by TI Corporation. Compared with the microchip controller this controller can operate faster.In this paper, the capacitor banks are grouped according to the binary code mode, the switching thresholds of the capacitors are also optimal allocated. In this way the efficiency and continuity of the compensation is greatly raised. A new control strategy was put forward through the"Voltage-Var"control method. The capacitors can be controlled accurately. Adopted these effective measures the frequently switching in critical regions are avoided. The permanent magnetic vacuum synchronous circuit breakers ensure the capacitor banks switching in the best phase, inrush-current-free switching is realized. The capacitors can be operated safely and stably. Protection of the capacitors and other electrical elements are also seriously considered.In order to realize the function of this device, the hardware circuit of the controller and the main circuit are designed, including sampling circuit, trigger circuit, protection circuit, power circuit etc.In the aspect of the soft design, the C language and modularization method are used to improve the generalization and maintainability of the software system. The procedure flow charts are given as meanwhile.Finally, the system hardware and software is tested and the results are given. The experiment results show the rationality and feasibility of the design project.
