In recent years, the Magnetic value Controllable Reactor is extensively used in the railway power lines, power lines and wind farm. In the high pressure and ultra-high pressure applications, its research also made breakthroughs and became one hotspot for the study direction of the Static Var Compensator.In this paper, a high performance controller contraposing the application of MCR is designed. Firstly, Structure principles and operating characteristics of MCR are analyzed; its working process is simulated based on MATLAB/SIMULINK; the design requirements according to the transformer substation local demand is presented. Secondly, single phase four pillars core type is devised based on small section core and limit magnetic saturation technology for the noumenon; for the controller, the integrated hardware and software system is designed and developed based on the DSP and CPLD. In the excogitation of hardware system, in addition to fully considering the integrity to achieve the function, electromagnetic compatibility is totally implemented to ensure it's safety in industry location, according to the characteristics of the Engineering R&D. Integrated software system consists of two parts:one is the CPLD software program which is responsible to achieve control function; the other is the DSP software program which is responsible to achieve power acquisition, control algorithm and Human-Computer Interaction etc. Moreover, AC sampling discrete algorithm is deduced in detail and validated on MATLAB while the DSP program is compiled. In the software, about the realization of control algorithm and the Phase-shifting Trigger Circuit are discussed detailedly. Finally, in accordance with the requirements of national standard had a rigorous test with the controller prototype, the test mainly include measure precision experiment, EMC, No-load and load experiment.The test results show that this MCR controller satisfied the national standard on measure precision, dynamic response time and control capability, and it can be produced in batches. The MCR controller studied in this paper attained the result of controlling reactor capacity by controlling the saturation of magnetic circuit and used symmetrical structure which had significant advantages of small output-harmonic, low power consumption, maintenance free, simple structure, high reliability, low cost, small occupation area, etc. So, it's an ideal equipment of Static Var Compensator and voltage regulation.
