Firstly the paper introduces the background of choosing the thesis. In a part or some electrical components malfunction, failure treatment will quickly spread to neighboring area, causing eventually do great harm. So it shows the research on cascading failure is especially important. The research paper introduced current international cascading failure research results and four usually used analysis method on cascading failure including the method of physics process search, the method of physical simulation in macro assessment, method of simplification of physical processes for macro system complexity theory, method of network analysis. This paper mainly analyzed the method of physics process search.A few typical accidents caused by cascading outages are analyzed in the paper. Blackout is often a series of events and the comprehensive development of accidental element results. This paper summarizes the major power outages cause the system to four main factors:the power-angle stability damage, system out-of-step; Overload chain reaction; Voltage collapse; Frequency collapse.This paper used the event tree theory to analyze the chain-like failure. Meanwhile it considers the influence caused by the second order multiple failures. It also introduced the influence of small probability events for the fuzzy treatment method. It has simplified the calculation of example emulation. In the third chapter, it summarizes the influence factors of chain fault model and detailed analyzes the function relation of these factors which include the system operating mode, natural factors, and the load factors, equipment factors, human factors, etc. This paper designs the analysis process of the chain faults. It uses the RTS-96 system for example simulation analysis. It also introduces the function group concept in the data treatment. It also effectively divides the RTS-96 system topological structure, which could greatly reduce the workload for processing data.Though the analysis of an example model, it could be obtained the operation mode of the path and cascading had changed since the changing of running way. The conclusion can avoid the risk of power maintenance. It also improves the search methods of multiple failures cascading failure path and chain fault provides a good foundation to further research.
