There was active demand for the practicality of power network fault diagnosis. Most of the existing literatures and research results referring to the power network fault diagnosis were based on theoretical research, which was difficult to operate practically. This paper summarized the theory research findings of fault diagnosis and pointed out the difficulty of practicality. In the meanwhile, the fault diagnosis system online was being expounded and summarized, and the direction diligently of fault diagnosis practicality was specified.To improve the reliability and precision rate of power network fault diagnosis system online, this paper researched and achieved the function of recording historical fault data which could be used to analyze the operation state of the system. The historical fault data generated during the preliminary operation from November 2008 until February 2010 was recorded using this function referred before. The disadvantage of the system was analyzed in detail, and the improvement measures were proposed, which could be a lesson to promote the practicability of fault diagnosis.The power network fault diagnosis preprocessing function using the SCADA historical data was proposed based on the operation condition analysis to the system before. The feasibility of using historical alarm data from the SCADA historical data to implement power network fault diagnosis was tested and demonstrated. The power network fault diagnosis system based on historical data was designed. The recording mode and operation mechanism of historical alarm information and grid section data (including model data and flow data) were researched and developed. Finally, the feasibility of this method was proved through offline and online test.In the reasoning mode of active fault information collection and fault analysis rolling reasoning, to make full use of information from various data sources, the multi-task coordinating processing mechanism of fault diagnosis was designed, so as to realize the coordination of active fault information collection and the coordinating processing of diagnosis task. Meanwhile the cross-platform interface schemes of fault diagnosis was researched and put forward to improve the cross-platform universality and practicality of fault diagnosis system.
