Concrete-filled GFRP, a new kind of FRP tubed composite structure, is developing in recent years.GFRP tubed composite strcture has been widely used in the bridge engineering because of its superior properties in high structure capacity, ease for constructure, in high corrosion-resistent and high seismic behaviors,ect. It isquite meaningful to study the feasibility of rapide repair of earthquake-damaged bridge piers for the restoration of the transport network to ensure timely earthquake relief work carried out,as well as for reconstruction funds saved. Domestic and foreign scholars have conducted investigations in the study of rapid repair of earthquake damaged GFRP tubed RC bridge piers. The severe earthquake damaged GFRP tubed RC bridge piers repaired by the enlarged section; the use of a steel jiacket; the wrapped CFRP sheets, ect. However, the domestic scholars focused on CFRP tubed columns for general repair of reinforced concrete piers, and columns for the repair of concrete bridge piers GFRP little studied. In this paper, the severe earthquake damaged GFRP tubed RC bridge piers repaired by enlarging the original section and wrapping the CFRP sheets. The detail works are summarized as follows:(1) Systematically reviewing the research progresss in home and aborad on seismic behaviors of severe earthquake damaged GFRP tubed RC bridge piers repaired with CFRP sheets.(2) Six GFRP tubed RC bridge piers repaired by CFRP sheets were tested under cyclic lateral force and a constant load equal to the original bridge piers. There are 4 piers repaired by wrapper with CFRP sheets and the others repaired by enlarging the original section.The paper has studied the questions such as characteristic of resilience, skeleton curve, degeneration of rigidity,ductility,energy consumption,the strain of steel hoop and CFRP. The result shows that repaired with CFRP not only inerease the repaired GFRP tubed bridge Piers ultimate strength but also improve the performance such as energy consumption and ductility, ect.(3) Contrast against the seismic behavior of these piers, Analysis of advantages and disadvantages of the two repair methods. (4) Point out the dificiencies of the paper, and this paper summarizes the original ideas and gives some;problems for future studies.
