Structural vibration control is a kind of technology that adopt control devices which consume or resist the external energy of controlled structure inputted form external to achieve effective control, where control algorithm plays an important role as it decides the force of the control device. Control theory and algorithm in Civil Engineering come from modern control theory, and because of the distinction of structure in civil engineering and so on, some traditional control algorithms and theories are not fully adapted. Price mechanism of the free market economy is introduced in market-based control (MBC) theory and improved multi-market based control (MMBC) theory to describe control system. By means of simulating commodity exchange in the market, the limited energy is distributed in the control system to make sure economic agent in the virtual market benefit maximization. The theory was used to solve vibration control problems of the large span bridge and large space reticulated shell in this article and the followings are some aspects of the work:(1) Systematically summarizes the research and development situation of MBC method. The foundations of economics that MBC method based on and some common supply demand functions of the market in civil engineering structure vibration control system were introduced, which gave theoretical foundation of MBC theory for the following works.(2) MBC method was selected as a control algorithm in a vibration control model experiment, where Piezoelectric as driving and sensor unit was accomplished with dSpace system. Matlab/Simulink working environment was used to compile MBC algorithm. Responses of the structure model were tested between free vibration state and MBC condition after initial excitation. The reliability of applying MBC method on actual structure is verified.(3) MBC method was introduced to solve the vibration control problems of a large-span frame bridge, and after combining semi-active control devices and semi-active control law, the structure achieved semi-active control. Having considered the influence of traveling wave effect to achieve semi-active control of large span structure using MBC theory, and it shows better damping effect after comparing no control and under control conditions of the structure response.(4) Applying MMBC method which based on MBC method to solve vibration control problems of a reticulated shell structure. After combining semi-active control devices and semi-active control law, decentralized semi-active control of this reticulated shell structure was achieved while considering multidimensional seismic input which has better damping effect. It shows that using MMBC method to solve space structure vibration control problem is effective.
