Crankshaft is one of the most important parts of the diesel engine, the simulation of it has great significance. Multi-body dynamics is an effective method of the engine body simulation, it provides a strong technical for precisely analysis the dynamic response of crankshaft system on the computer, innovative design of the crank shaft, and optimization of the design. This is the trend of engine design.Using nonlinear multi-body dynamics and 3D finite element method to analysis the strength of a 16 V-engine crankshaft. The 3D finite element solid models of crankshaft and other parts were created and reduced by substructure technique. The multi-body dynamics program, considering joints added, was introcuced to establish the multi-body dynamics model. The results of multi-body dynamics calculation were transferred to the 3D finite element model. Then the dynamic stress and fatigue strength of the crankshaft were analyzed under one operating mode. At last, check the fatigue strength.Through the simulation of the actual work and the crankshaft in a working cycle of the simulation can not only get the dynamic response characteristics, but also to the analysis of the main bearing loads at the same time, get the main bearing force, crank pin force and so on. Through the stress recovery get the transient stress distribution, find the dangerous section, check strength. Simulation of the torsional vibration shows the natural frequencies, amplitude of the free end.In the traditional analysis of dynamic, loading conditions for the deal with the complexity of the process puzzle the designers, but the multi-body dynamics and 3D finite element method used to avoid these. Increasing the dynamic response analysis of precision parts under the dynamic load. So there is great significance to the design and check of the diesel crankshaft.
