The phenomenon of vehicle jump is one of the most common and difficult highway problems puzzling engineers for many years. The harmfulness has been paid much attention by persons working at the railway stations recently. Although there are a lot of studies on this issue at home and abroad, the problem has not been well resolved. With the development of highway construction in our country, solving this problem thoroughly becomes urgent and practical.Based on the investigation of Fushun Ethylene Bridge Abutment Treatment Project, this thesis proposed bi-directional earthwork grille and approach slab program which would reinforce the prevention and control for one side of abutment back. Subsequently, this thesis made an analysis on mechanism of abutment back reinforcement as well as engineering properties of geogrid. And the program of this project would be carried out with determined and the reinforced spacing and length of geogrid according to the actual situation combined with earthwork synthetic material and technical specifications.The thesis conducted a layered soil subsidence monitoring to the treatment effect of the project. It made an economic evaluation about the reinforcement. And it conducted theoretical calculation to ground settlement and embankment settlement by way of layerwise summation.By employing ABAQUS finite element method to simulate the actual geogrid reinforcement working conditions, and discussing the reinforcement spacing, reinforcement layers, embankment height and the impact of the settlement, this thesis expounded effectively the differential settlement at transition section can be well controlled, and made the transition between the bridge abutment and the embankment become smooth.This thesis made a thorough and detailed research on the issue of applying geogrid abutment reinforcement to vehicle jump; it provided a theoretical and practical basis for the prevention and control of jump problems.
