Steel Frames with semi-rigid connections have many advantages, researching about it is becoming more and more deeply in the past few years in our country, but it did not use in practical. The reason is the seismic behavior of this kind of structural system is not clear, and must lucubrate it with the newly ideas. The non-linearity of semi-rigid connections must be determined before structural analysis. So firstly, this article used the method from thesis to determine the performance of extended end plate connections after summarizing the status of domestic and overseas. It is found from calculation that different connections tectonic result different moment—rotation curve, failure mode. Besides, this article contrast the result of modal analysis of two residential building structures with different connections: the low vibration periods of non-brace semi-rigid steel frame is increased compare with non-brace rigid steel frame, therefore, the range of periods is increased; on the other side, connections caused small influence on brace steel frames. Finally, using incremental dynamic analysis based on fiber hinge model to contrast the seismic resistance performance of practical application with two kinds of connections, the computation results prove that the seismic deflection and base shear response of semi-rigid steel frame is less than rigid steel frame. The biggest interlayer displacement with differences between the above-mentioned two kinds of structures, and the range of the interlayer displacement of semi-rigid steel frame is large. The displacement time history records of same point with differences between the two kinds of structures. Semi-rigid steel frame entered the energy dissipation step earlier than rigid steel frame, and the flexibility of connection made structure easier to access with"strong column weak beam".
