Urban Light Rail Transport Planning Method Based On The Existing Railway

As the rising of China's urbanization and motorization level, and rapid growing of people travel volume, which makes an imbalance in urban road traffic supply and demand, super-saturation in traffic load, more serious congestion, and the decline of bus service aggravates the problem. Sustainable development as an important goal of future urban development, it needs to develop urban rail transit to solve these problems. Light rail as a middle traffic volume rail transit system, which has lower cost, flexible configuration, lower noise, no pollution, shorter construction period, and so on. The combination of light rail with existing urban railroad can optimize the railway resources allocation, effectively solve urban traffic congestion, and promote the sustainable development of urban transport.This paper first analyzes and compares different mode of light rail based on the existing rail, including joint operation, conversion of railway lines for light rail, dual-mode vehicle and parallel railway construction new light rail. Secondly, combination urban existing rail with light rail system, analyzing the influence factors of light rail passenger demand and establishing light rail transit passenger demand forecasting model takes into account existing railway network and passenger traffic site's influence. Then analysis the necessity and feasibility of development of light rail based on the existing rail, presented light rail transit line design standards (including graphic, longitudinal, cross-sectional) based on existing railway, analyzed the relationship between light rail transit and other transport system, and the land use controlling content along light rail planning; built the urban light rail transit planning method based on existing railway.Finally, this paper applied the established model and planning method into Harbin light rail loop practice based on the existing railway, and designed the light rail loop transit planning. The construction of light rail transit in Harbin on both sides along existing railway thirty meters has its necessity and feasibility, which is helpful for speeding up the transformation process of the old urban district, and makes the old urban district in Harbin upgrade, following the"Restoration"strategy in Harbin's municipal development strategy.
