Transformers are the basic components used for signal and energy transmission and conversion in electronic circuits. They are based on electromagnetic induction principle, to change the AC voltage. In recent years, Miniaturization of Electronic device and equipment become a trend along with the development of electronic industry and semiconductor technology. So miniaturization and integration of transformer which is basal device in signal and energy conversion is also become a trend. The traditional electromagnetic transformers are three-dimensional. It can not be integrated in IC. In recent years, there have been many planar transformers which are very different with conventional transformer in structure, Volume of the new transformer are reduced. After the abolition of the core, Characteristic are good when they work at high frequency. The new planar transformer has appeared in electronic industry for low power IC, power supply, for example DC-DC and AC/DC converter. In this paper a new type of coreless semiconductor transformer are introduced.Also known as IC transformer, it will be used in IC. The principle of it is the same with the conventional transformer, but it has lots of differences from the conventional transformers. It use the doping etching process in the semiconductor substrate to create a certain carrier density of the coil, Compare with the PCB transformer, it's smaller, more efficient, and power density is higher. This transformer combines the new semiconductor technology, so the production process more complicated.In this paper, a new type of coreless semiconductor transformer and its structure are introduced. Two common ways (analytic method and FEM) of analyzing planar coreless transformer is presented. Engineering software is used for analyzing and emulating the semi-conductor transformer .magnetic field distribution diagram is given. And in this paper , electromagnetic parameters influenced by different geometry of winding is presented using Finite Element Analysis .And the conclusion can be regarded as design guideline of semiconductor transformer.Currently, the semiconductor planar transformer research also still in the stage of theoretical research, but with more in-depth research, its small size, power density, efficiency advantages gradually will be the recognition. And obviously they will be widely used in national defense, telecommunications, aerospace, medical equipment, automotive electronics, computers, digital products and other fields.
