Analytical robust design theory was improved and expanded against its deficiencies, in order to combined with the engineering practice as well as possible. Based on the developed robust design theory, the robust design software was developed to realize the automation of robust design, whose structure and operation were presented in the thesis. The robust design for the headstock of high-speed milling machine was carried out using the robust design software, which verified the theory and software, at the same time provided theoretical basis for further improving the robustness of the spindle box.The specific content of this thesis are as follows:1) The research status of analytical robust design and Kriging surrogate model were elaborated. The origin and the significance of the issue were summarized. The main contents of the issue were presented.2) The general process and universal model of analytical robust design were introduced. The robust design model was improved by including noise variables, and the correlation of each variable was discussed. The multi- objective strategy and Kriging surrogate model for the analytical robust design are introduced.3) A robust design software was developed based on developing robust design theory. The thesis described the structure, process, database structure, key technologies and integration methods etc. of the robust design software. The derivation of mean and variance formula based on symbolic computation, automatic processing solutions for multi-objective Pareto and Kriging surrogate model construction techniques were made highlight.4) The features of robust design software and the interface operations according to the order of module division were introduced. And take Jian Zhang's paper for example to verify the robust design software with the robust design of variance model, boundary model and tolerance model, and the results showed that the software fully credible and reliable.5) Robust design was carried out for the headstock of YH53200 milling machine with analytical method and surrogate model method using the robust design software. Analytical method can quickly confirm the robustness of headstock, but the accuracy is low. Surrogate model method need a long cycle, but the accuracy is high, that consistent with the requirements of engineering practice. The two methods both provided a theoretical basis for further enhancing the robustness of headstock while verifying design theory and software.
