Great attentions have been paid to the research of multi-hull ship due to their superior sailing abilities and encouraging prospects in both civil and military applications. However, hydrodynamics of a pentamaran is indeed complicated due to the interactions among the main hull and the four demi-hulls. And, the research rarely mentioned the added resistance of multi-hull ship. Furthermore, the multi-objective optimization of the layout of a multi-hull ship is still a new area.A pentamaran composed of five Wigley hulls is studied as the target ship for multi-objective optimization of layout. Ship motions are calculated using 3D frequency-domain panel method and added resistance is calculated using Near-field theory. The comparison of calculation and model test data shows the calculation is effective. The emphasis of this work is the multi-object optimization of the layout of a pentamaran. The integrated of optimization software iSIGHT and hydrodynamic calculation software HydroSTAR is showed in detail. The DOE (Design of Experiment) method is used for sensitive analysis of design variable. NSGA-II has been selected as the multi-objective optimization algorithm. The result of optimization is given by Pareto solution.
