Pentamaran is becoming a research focus of ship building industry. Nowmost researches focus on prediction and optimization of pentamarans’resistance and motion performance. Meanwhile the optimization study aremostly about the configuration of demihulls and the objective is relativelysimple. Principal dimensions and configuration of demihulls have significantinfluence on pentamarans’ resistance and seakeeping performance, which bothneed to take into account in optimization process. Collaborative optimizationof demihulls and main hull is also necessary because of hydrodynamicinteraction between hulls.The purpose of this paper is to achieve collaborative hydrodynamicoptimization of pentamaran’s resistance and seakeeping performance bychanging main hull form and principal dimensions and configuration ofdemihulls. So pentamaran hydrodynamic optimization system is establishedin this paper based on iSIGHT. HydroStar is adopted to calculate motions andadded resistance of pentamaran and Shipflow is used to calculate wavemaking resistance of pentamaran. A hull form modification code is developedbased on radius basis function. Automatic modeling of pentamaran andgenerating of input files of hydrodynamic calculation are accomplished.HydroStar and Shipflow are integrated with iSIGHT after achieving automaticcalling of these two software and parsering of the main files. NSGA-IIalgorithm is used in collaborative hydrodynamic optimization of the targetpentamaran. Pareto solutions are obtained after the optimization which provesthat this optimization system can be an effective tool for hydrodynamicdesign of pentamaran.
